Well I just got my new Model 12 LRPV 22-250 9" twist to the range for the first time yesterday.

I did my 20 shot break in using some very accurate loads from my other 22-250's to do the break in and sight in. The gun didn't like them too well so I was concerned.

I then shot 5 different development loads and only one made the .5 MOA which was a 75 gr HPBT Hornady. The 75 Amax's didn't do so well but one was under 1
inch MOA but the rest were much bigger. I did have one load with 75 AMAX that I will retry that was 5 shots but I can only find 3 holes with 2 holes touching to make a ragged hole. I'm using Lapua brass 210M primers and H4350 powder. I will work up some more loads but wondering if anyone has any suggestions for powder or bullets that they have had particular success with.

Why not try the 69gr SMKs? Technically, the 75gr AMax is a 1:8 twist bullet. I know some folks are going to chime in that the 75gr AMax can be shot stabil in a 1:9" twist barrel. I think you're seeing that the 75gr AMax is NOT the right bullet for your 1:9. Otherwise sounds like you're right on track for a great rifle!

Thanks for the response.

Actually I know some folks shooting the 75 AMAX in a 223 9 inch twist. Hornady folks told me that it should stabilize in a 9" 22-250 but it depended on the individual rifle. I will also try the 69 SMk's and Barnes 69 grainers.

I know.... this is the way it always seems to go with the factory 1:9 in .223 (people want to shoot the 75gr AMax as it has a killer rep). Maybe the best thing to consider is to look at swapping out that factory barrel with a nice CBI from Jim at NSS... (with the 1:8 twist that is)

The 75gr bullets are a 1:8 twist bullet in a .223, but a 1:9 twist is more than sufficient at higher 22-250 velocities. Been there, done that.

Also try the hornaday 68 gn BTHP and 70 bergers ;-)

My guns streamlines "Berger 52 gr FB" target bullets, there fast and a lot of fun to shoot, FYI

I saw the 70 Bergers and they look interesting. Has anyone tried these and how did they work? I re-reviewed my target and on one of the 75 AMAX loads it would seem 4 shots went into a .375 hole. I originally had thought only two did but now see that there are grease marks that show 3 or more in the hole. I'm disappointed probably mostly because my Tikka Varmint shoots 80 gr AMAX's into one ragged hole in 5 shot groups.

75 gr. Amax's are not what I would call a short range bullet, and thus may not impress you @ 100yds. Try them @ 200 yds and tune your load from there...after all, they are long range bullets. You might want to try a CCI BR-2 primer also.

Thanks I will try that. I'm actually working up some new loads now and will try the CCI BR-2 Primers.
