I noticed the bolt takes a bit of muscle to open, is this normal? It closes and slides easily but to open I have to brace the rifle or it will tip over on a bi-pod. I took some pictures where you can see the bolt head scrapping the barrel. Let me know your thoughts

Thanks.

Also is every bodies finish like this? I've only put 20 rounds through this rifle.

Does it do it on an empty chamber?

Yes, I've cycled it about 50 times today empty.. I've been driving my wife nuts with the noise.

For sure, the bolt face should not contact the end of the barrel. Your rail looks pretty normal I think.

one of 2 things causes that assuming the correct dimension tool was used to headspace.
The easy one to check is the depth of the bolt head.
The other is how much the case sticks out of the barrel. Either of these being to deep lets the bolt and barrel touch.

Alright I'm sending the rifle into savage arms again.

Before you send it back, make sure the front action screw isnt rubbing the bolt head. Back the action screw out and see if you still have the same problem.

It's already packed up, you would think there gunsmith would check everything. I gave them the link to this post btw, no sure if they will give it the time of day or not.

Alright a quick update to talk about Savage Arms customer server. 1st time I sent the rifle in it took 3 weeks, I got it back with nothing done they said it fired perfectly. So I resend it in, telling them I don't care if it shoots good fix the damage. I didn't pay $500 for a defected rifle.

I got it back the 2nd time, nothing done but had a bunch of yellow and red debris sticker/paper in the action and barrel. Also had metal shavings in the barrel threads. So I returned it for a 3rd time, came back with the stock gouged up by some sort of auto vise :/ the shavings and yellow and red debris still remained. I called back pissed of that they were doing nothing and it came back every time in worse condition.

So I did my final send it and they finally replace my rife with a new one and its super clean and I'm happy. There are stickers on that weren't on it when I first back the rifle, which I thought was weird. Through the whole process I missed rifle season though :(
