Well, I'll introduce myself first as a long time shooter, tinkerer, AR builder, and getting more and more into bolt guns. I own a Savage 93R17 BSEV thats a phenomenal little .17hmr, and I love it. One of my favorite guns to shoot in general. I recently bought a Savage model 10 TH XP Nikon in .308. I'm kind of a trigger whore and while the trigger is just OK on it at the lowest setting from the factory, I would like to go a bit lighter with it. I like keeping triggers between 12+ ounces to 1.5lbs or so at the range, and 2.5lbs or so during coyote hunting which is why I bought this rifle. I've heard you can buy a model 12 benchrest trigger spring to put in and get it down into the high 12+ ounce range but the problem I'm having is that I can't find one of those springs at any of my normal shopping locations. I joined here to get into the bolt guns more and ask, and answer questions, and find out more just lurking around a bit. Anyway, does anyone know whether I can get a factory model 12 spring or can I get something else to fit my 10 th xp that will lower the trigger pull weight. Thanks in advance, and I'm glad to be a part of this forum.

Also, here are a couple of pics on how I got it and what I did to it.

How she started (minus the Harris bipod of course)

And after my paint job. I did Coyote brown with black webbing, and a matte clear coat so its not reflective.

And this last one was mid process of painting and before being cleared.

To start the 6oz accu-trigger uses the same spring as a vamint accu-trigger, (silver) the diference is in the sear. the lighter accu-trigger sear is identified by a dimple on the side under the bolt release flag. As far as buying the spring, or even the 6oz sear, you may be disapointed as no one sells them, and Savage will not sell them either. Sharp Shooters Supply (SSS)was the only place I ver heard of that sold the "silver" varmint spring, and I dont believe they sell them anymore. The best option is if you want a lighter trigger you need to get an aftermarket trigger like the SSS competition.

Thanks a bunch. I was trying to shy away from going with a whole new trigger. I just wanted to adjust the trigger I currently had. Maybe I can find a trigger somebody is replacing from a model 12 target or something.

Thank you good sir. On Calguns which I'm a part of often, I get a LOT of offers to do that to their stocks. I'm also a Mod on mossbergmvp forum as well. The MVP is a great gun as well BTW if anyone wants to check out a gun obviously copied off of savage with their LBA trigger and other goodies. Its a fun gun to shoot. Here's that one:

What bolt is that? Looks like the Savsage 11 bolt.

Standard Mossberg MVP bolt. They spiral flute them. They also do a medium contoured fluted barrel. Only thing I'd like to do with this rifle is take 4" off the barrel and re crown it to a recessed 11* target crown. It already shoots 1/4-1/2 MOA as it sits with Hornady 55gr V-Max.

This is what I did to bring my trigger from just over 2 lbs to a crisp 1 lbs 5 oz pull.

I removed both the main trigger pull spring and the blade spring. I then replaced them with springs from ink pens. Just be sure the blade spring is lighter than the main sping. I just cut the spring down a little at a time until the desired pull was reached.

FYI- I tried the bump test afterward and the rifle would not fire when the butt stock was bounced on the floor. I also tried cycling the bolt as hard as I counld and failed to get the gun to fire on its own like that either. I have been using this rifle with this modification for a while now and have had absolutely no problems with it.

As always- This is what I did, It worked in MY rifle and I take no resposibility for what YOU do with YOUR rifle.

Oh and welcome to the brotherhood

Well thanks brother! I'll give that a shot. Only thing that may make me run into problems is the trigger spring itself actually screws into the trigger shoe itself how its made and seems like the pen springs may be a bit difficult. I'll play with it when I get it back. A buddy is borrowing it right now for a hunting trip.

My trigger was the same way. The spring I had actually fit perfect in the hole where the factory spring threads in. Just sitting in there as it wouldnt thread like the factory one does. I then uses a pair of pliers and bent the spring (where I cut it) out straight so it fit in the hole on the safety tang. Then just match up a lighter spring that fits where the factory one does on the trigger blade. You may need to stretch the spring a bit to get a snug fit.

The same trigger I have is in the link above
