I'm going to be loading for 7mm-08 real soon.

What's a good bullet & weight to start with? I'm seeing IMR4064 & 4895 making regular guest star appearances. Also Reloader 15.

I'm guessing a mid - weight bullet?..... Somwhere in the 150 - 160gr. range?

By the way, It's a 9.5 twisty.

I'ts going to be one of the new official family hunting & occasional target rifles.

If ya got 2 cents worth on this, feel free to throw it in. I'm new to the wonderful world of 7mm.

I appreciate your input.

bergers 168 grain hunting vlds only require a 10 twist. Might be a sweet long range capable performer.

Thanks guys.... Bullets on order from MudWay.

I'm liking what I read about the caliber so we'll see how it goes.

Later y'all.

I shoot 7-08's in competition (generally factory Remington barrels) and they all like bullets anywhere from 130 up to 175gr. The bullets I use most are 130gr SMKs and 168grSMKs. Those both shoot fantastic as well does the 150gr SMK. For hunting I like Nosler 120gr and 140gr Ballistic Tip bullets (designed for game animals... not varmints), and I also like the 139gr Hornady Interbond. I also like the Hornady SST bullets (all of them... 139gr, 154gr and 162gr) depending on what animal.

I use Varget exclusively in my 7-08's. The 4064 is a fantastic powder for the heavier bullets (160+).

I love the 7-08. It's a great all around cartridge for hunting and target.

I recently installed an E.R.Shaw 26" varmint contour 7mm/08 barrel on my 12FLV.I've been testing the 140gr Nosler C/T Silvertips and 139gr Hornady SP Interlock bullets.
I have loaded them with Varget,H4350,IMR4350,Big Game,Reloader 15 & 19 from Minimum to Maximum charges. So far,I'm not impressed with the results, most avg. around 1.25" at 100 yards.I have some 140gr Sierra Gamekings that I'm going to try,but then I'll try some heavier bullets in it.
The Nosler's really suprised me,I shoot the same bullets in my 25/06-308-30/06-300WM,and they all shoot these from .25"-.750" groups all day long.My 458 SOCOM even shoots the 300gr Nosler Silvertips under an inch at 100 yards.

I have had real good luck with Nosler 120 Gn. Ballistic tip bullets in front of 46.5 Gn. of Hodgdon CFE 223, with the added benefit of no copper fouling what so ever.
