How does scope height effect ballistics?

Well the title doesn't make sense, of course it doesn't effect the ballistics.... but what will it do to your sight picture? Will you save internal MOA adjustments one way or another if it is lower rather than higher? Besides tilting the gun where a higher scope will lead to more shift of impact than one closer to the barrel (is this even appreciable if we're talking tenth's of inches?) is there any more positives/negatives to this? Just curious, lets hear what you guys think about this issue.

It does have some influence but it isn't exactly linear.

Example from a 308 175gr match load

100 yard zero and a 1.5" scope height = 39.5 MOA drop at 1000 yards

With a 2.5" scope height and all the rest the same, the drop at 1000 becomes 38.5 MOA
6.5" scope height = 35.25 MOA.

I prefer a tall mount so that my face doesn't touch the stock at all for long range shooting and I always use a bubble level to keep things plumb.

THanks, that's exactly what I was looking for. Good idea with the level -- do you put that on your 1 pc mount, or on the scope itself? I can't think of a good place to put it where I could see it and it would really get things leveled?
