Thanks. I pick up the rifle on Tuesday I'm going to do some testing with a new magazine before I tear the rife down. After that the fun begins. The compete buid is over at weapons guild and I will post here in the axis based section :-)

IS there a length restriction where you live?

Just a shade longer than the 445 Super mag @ 1.6 . Was this idea with a specific purpose in mind?

Well I have always wanted a 44 mag rifle but didnt want a 444 marlin or a standard 44 mag. I was sitting around sifting through some brass and came across a few -06 cases (I dont have an -06 rifle) So I sawed the neck off and came up with the 1.85 dimension and then flared it with a 44 mag die and popped a bullet in it seated to 2.220 (I liked the round number. I would like to hunt hogs or other medium sized game with it. It is more or less a why not? kinda thing for me, as I love to tinker. I picked the Savage action for its ease of head spacing, now I just have to make a custom reamer and go from there with testing.

yap 1.8 and .35 cal. for rifles its a dumb rule they came up with here i indiana but you can shoot any thing over a 243 if its in a pistol get that one

I bet we could come up with a compliant version of this for your state :)

Not much to headspace on with this cartridge. The 444 marlin has the rim to headspace on, this round only has the case mouth and that is not much. I would opt for the .444.
Good luck with it in any event.
Best regards,
Grit

yes this is true i wonder if any one has done this with a belted case that would bet something i would say

I have loaded a few dummies and it should head space fine of the case mouth with the slight crimp I have on it. I will have to keep cases consistent length I built a special mandrel for my trimmer to get them within 1thou and carefully finish by hand.

Sure have, either the 458x2 American or 450 Marlin, both are short, big bore rounds that headspace off of a belt.

I had wondered about building something very similar to this on a 240 Weatherby case at one time. It would be belted and could run on a standard 308/30-06 sized bolt face and probably even magazines. Only real issue I think would be availability of brass, or at least cost.

Cool concept, basicaly a super 44 automag pistol round. I do the same thing to 30-06 brass to make my 44amp brass except it is cut at 1.30" then I have to ream the neck. I wonder if you will have to ream the neck too?

Good shooting
