I think I'm going to trade my Saiga for a Savage BVSS in 30/06. I can't find much info on them. Can anyone tell me about them?

They are usually a heavy barrel with a nice hefty varmint /taget type stock and if it is new enough with the accutrigger. I have 3 of them heavily modified.I like them but is unaware that they came in 30-06.Question him on if it is a savage heavy barrel or not.

I could be totally wrong but that doesn't look like a BVSS. The barrel is fluted like one but that is the only resemblance I see unless it's a very old model. The one that I have and have seen many more like it, the stock is more of a varmint/target style and is made of nutmeg laminate. I don't know how far back the BVSS line goes but looking at the trigger it is not the accutrigger. They were also stainless unless that one has been coated. Again, I could be way off here but I don't think it's a BVSS.

He says it's a Bell and Carlson Duramax stock and competition trigger. Dude has a great rep so I'll go take a look.

I am not sure I have seen one in .30-06 either. I know I haven't seen them with a blued barrel. I have seen a few that snuck out of the factory with a blued action and SS barrel but not a completely blued/blacked one. The heavy laminate stock made it a BVSS. So while it may have started as a BVSS but it certainly isn't one anymore. This is what all the ones I have seen look like ('cept for the blued action versions).

The picture in the last post looks exactly like my 25/06and it is a 112 bvss.
B= laminat
V = Varmint
SS = stainless
What is shown in your picture is not what Savage would have called a bvss.

Ok feller had all the original paperwork and receipts where he swapped out stocks and had barrel matted. That suits me because I like the darker barrel. It is a nice nice rifle.

What he is trading at this point is basically the same as a 112FV Fluted not a 112 BVSS since the heavy laminate stock is gone.
Why anyone would do that to a BVSS instead of just buying a FV would have to be because they weren't selling 112s at the time they bought the rifle, just like they aren't right now in the catalog.

That's all that really matters.

The .30-06 can be a fine long range shooter as long as you don't mind some recoil.

Are you handloading for it or using commercial ammo?

Commercial for now, hopefully Santa will be dropping off some reloading gear Christmas.

Let's spend your money now.:p You can reuse the brass you have for starters but eventually you'll want to try to load for accuracy. At that point try to get at least 100 pcs of good brass like Nosler. The .30-06 shoots the same bullets as the .308 so the 175gr Sierra MatchKing with Varget or H-4350 powder. Other bullet options are Nosler Competition BTHP in 168gr and Berger VLD in 168gr & 175gr. Since the .30-06 has more powder capacity than the .308, you will be able to push these bullets faster and you will also be able to push up to 200gr bullets with decent accuracy.

If you want something to hunt with, Berger markets the VLD for that also.

As for reloading stuff, both Lee and RCBS have good starter sets. The Lee auto-prime hand primer is by far my favorite. The RCBS scale and powder dispenser are better than Lee. The Lee case length gauges (stupid proof case trimmer) are awesome. The RCBS chamfer tool is my favorite. When it comes to dies, I like the Lee 3-die set that has the collet die for neck sizing. Lee die sets include the shell holder. RCBS dies are good to as are Forsters.
