Can any one correctly tell me what the finish on a Savage BVSS stock is. I have let my dremel get away while cleaning up after bedding and need to repair a few places. I want the same finish as original so I don't have to take the entire stock down to bare wood.
Thanks in advance for the information.

I've had best luck with Tru-Oil Gunstock Finish for touching up Savage stocks. Sand out bad nicks with 600 grit, dirty sand in Tru-Oil if bare wood is exposed and 0000 steel wool after each coat dry's. It takes several coats to build back up to the satin luster finish.

It is usually catylized urethane or something like it and is extremely hard to strip it.I used to take 5 minute epoxy and mix it like normal and thin it with acetone and brush touch the affected areas. You put a very light coat on and let it harden.
