Bout the same as a 22-250AI.......but with much better brass.

Lapua is gonna start making 22-250 brass shortly though.

Don't gain much if anything in the AI form of this cartridge over the standard 22x47L.

Apache,

I feel sorry for that poor little ol' 250 Savage. I think that it needs some broad 40 degree shoulder blown out. Kind of like an LSU Safety.

I have something special planed for that barrel. ;)

Fire lapping then ream it out.

25BR reamer run deep enough to use 6.5x55 Swede brass..........blown out. Performance should be between the 257 Bob AI and the 25-06. Hope to use a short action with the bullets I want to use. Mainly the 80grn Barnes TTSX.

how do you make the brass? would it be suitable for 75 AMax and a 1:8 twist? what barrel length are you running?

It's made by necking down 6.5x47mm Lapua cases....with the AI version you then fireform it.

Yep, it'll handle the 75grn AMax.......mines a 26" varmint weight barrel.

You can do that will a 250 AI and there will be no question about using a short action.

In Reloaders Nest I found the following 250 AI loads

80 gr TTSX 42 gr. RL15 3500 FPS

100 gr. SGK 41 gr. RL15 3200 FPS

I love my .250 Sav. I am seriously considering AI'ing it. It is an Am. Classic Mod 14.

I've got a 250AI reamer..........I may just rechamber to that before I try my wildcat idea. Then again, I will prolly just do both and be done with it. You know you can never have enough wildcats or barrels! ;) ;D

What no eargersplitenloundenboomer, and you guys think I'm kidding, I'm not, its a 375 (I think) necked down to 22. Its in an old 1966, (my first), reloading manual, that I cant find right off, but will keep looking. It was built to set a record for the fastest 22. Services were held 3 days later, for close family members only of the shooter. (Just kidding about the service part) But the rifle is for real.

AND THE 257STW ISN'T?
I think for performance you can't beat the 25-06AI with 87 grainer at 3920 fps.
I don't know how it will be yet but I just bought a reamer and dies for a 6mm/6.5 rem mag

Apache,

Is there enough meat on a 25-06 sporter barrel to cut, rethread and rechamber to 250 AI?

Good post Okie2, that picture was from the same book I have (some place). You must not be new to reloading either. Some of the post, about it and its speed dont take into consideration this was done 45 years ago, back when 3000fps was vary fast. I would bet its older than some of the posters. I also dont think barrel life was even considered. And the guys that did it, were the top guys in reloading back then, real cutting edge.

With in the next couple of months! Gonna save the coinage to try a Sinman Brux barrel I think! Also have to spec out my reamer and get it ordered.... ;)

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

22 eargersplitenloundenboomer is the 378 Weatherby necked to 224.......totally a "play around" wildcat. Nothing practical about it.

257STW does have some real world use though......for around 700 rounds, depending on barrel care.. ;) ;D

I don't think so, but could be wrong. Ask Sinman to be sure, he should know. Get one of these, firelap it then rechamber:

http://www.midwayusa.com/viewproduct/?productnumber=194766

You will have to take a few threads off, re-thread a bit then rechamber but it would make a fairly cheap conversion if you can do the work yourself. This is what I'm gonna do for a 250AI. These barrels are 24" which would be a very good length to do a 250AI IMHO. If you have to have it done, then you might as well go with a quality barrel.

When done right, firelapping does a very god job of removing the tool marks and any high spots in the bore. It also give it a bit of "choke" or narrowing at the muzzle, which some (me) believes helps accuracy. I've done this to several of these A&B barrels and they have all improved in accuracy and cleaning.

I only firelap if I'm gonna rechamber to a cartridge that will ream out all of the existing chamber. The main thing you're after is a new neck and throat with a lapped bore. Not as good as the quality custom barrels, but not far behind them.

I think that I have convinced myself to get a Shaw barrel in 250 AI. I can get a prefit in the white for $155. This needs to be a low budget, under the wifes radar build and I still have my 25-06 AI for long range precision work.
