I think Henry has one in the making but I'm not sure if it's hit the market lately.

....I have decided to go with the .458 Win Mag! Donar action is already stripped down waiting parts for this build. Its going to be a 20" barrel in a true carbine style rifle with a barrel band, banded front sight with a hood and ramp rear sight set on a quarter rib....I think you made the right choice from all angles. Easier to find barrel, no feeding issues, plenty of power if needed but the potential to load down to sane performance. Don't forget to post a few pics when finished!

I have a Contender in 45-70 and I think putting that case in a repeating bolt action would be quite an undertaking. I would like to see it chambered in a Henry lever-that would be hot.

You mean like this one? As far as I know it's already out.

I got alot of work to do on this stock so it wont be a quick build, but I do have everything ordered so I can get started in a few days!

Henry 45-70, I cant believe they used a regular magazine tube instead of a loading gate, well I guess it would be cheaper to build that way.

And the Henry site is down! GRRRRR.... I fond a pic of something, is that a tube mag like a .22 with a slot near the end for dropping rounds in?

Thats what it looks like to me, I guess Henry used what they know best. It would be cheaper then making it with a loading gate.

Have you thought about using an old mosin-nagant action? It designed to shoot the 54r so the action is designed to prevent rim-lock in your magazine. Probably the biggest expense would be the gunsmith to put it all together.

Im not a big fan of the old mosin-nagant actions. I think the .458 with hand loads will serve me well for what Im wanting. Maybe one of these days I'll run across another simease action to build a 45-70 on. But for now Im pretty stoked on this .458 build!
