Powe Pro 2000 MR

Anyone using this in 168-178gr match bullets? Currently working on 168AMAX and just got some 178BTHP to try but Varget seems to have very high pressure according to speaking with local gun store and QL predictions

Am looking for a powder to have good velocity but lower pressures than Varget. I did a search but could not find anything

For that weight range(168-175) I have had much better luck with Win 748, rather than Varget. Varget couldn't get happy when I was testing. 748 is very stable in my gun, I can use my 60 degree loads in the 95+ temps.
I found the Sierra's data is extremely close to what my lot is, I believe that MZ5 had the same observations.

if I step up to the 185s what powder would be good to try? I have RE-15 and Varget but interested in the added velocity of Power Pro 2000 supposidly gives you


I also live in the south where temps are crazy hot and then cold so not sure what is the best "least temp sens" powder

I run PP 2000 MR in .223 Rem, .308 Win and .338-06..... and have been for the past 4 years. I've used it in my .308 with 168 Berger Hunting bullets from below 40 degrees in Kansas and above 100 degrees in south Texas. It's a remarkable powder! Don't tell any of the Varget or RL15 crowd.... they've already drank the "Kool-Aid" from all the marketing...... and nothing else shoots well..... No BS... PP 2000 is a great powder and you won't be disappointed. If you have any specific questions about my loads, "email" me and we'll visit.

Like darkker i found that Varget and my 308 (i assume that is what you are talking about) just didn't jive so i switched to BLC-2 for my 155 and 175 gr loads.

I worked my loads up in the summer and i have found no great difference in winter shooting. Granted my winter shooting stops about the time the temps hit 35-40deg as i hate cold with the exception being hunting. I wouldn't work up max loads with any powder in winter temps and expect it to be good to go in summer heat. Haven't tried the PP powders so all i can say is give it a shot it might be the powder you gun loves.

As far as the original question, regarding Power Pro 2000 MR... I started tinkering with some this summer behind a B185 OTM 'Juggernaut' in a 12 F/TR (Lapua brass, lit by a 210M primer). There are a few threads on it around various forums; the one I found seemed to indicate 46.0-47.0gn was about the range to expect to end up in. I ended up @ 46.5gn doing 2796fps avg. - it shot great @ 300 & 600yds, waiting to see how it behaves @ 1000. I've seen a few people griping because they blew primers in the summer heat - as in 115F+. Given I have no other info as to how fast they were shooting, cleaning habits, whether the ammo was left out in the sun, etc. its tough to say whether that was the powder at fault or just operator error. Now that I have my nifty MagnetoSpeed chrono, I plan on keeping tabs on the MV throughout the winter months for sure.
