I really love my 93 BTVSS in 17 HMR, it's crazy accurate and loads of fun to shoot but, maybe a little on the light side. Don't get me wrong, it'll sure do the job with a well placed shot, a couple of fox last year to prove that. Problem I found was...night hunting doesn't always offer the ability to get a perfect shot. It's also maybe a little pretty to be banging around with in the dark.

So, I ordered a 93GL in 22WMR. Not as pretty, not as fast, maybe not quite as accurate but, a 40gr bullet will be a little more forgiving than a 17gr.

Now comes the process of waiting for it to arrive (the hardest part).

I've thought about that also when considering my bvss 17hmr. I bought the model 25 in 223 with the wood thumbhole stock. Still almost too pretty to lug around outside. If had known better I woulda bought a 10/110 with a barrel nut.

Sounds like it'll be fun though. And I'm sure you'll put it to good use.

Got any scope plans??

A Widefield for sure, they work really well for night hunting.

With the XLR250 I can't go over 5x so, a 2-7 or 3-9 is perfect.

Wow !!! What a let down.

My .17HMR shoots like a work-of-art. This 22Mag is terrible. We all know the tricks to getting Savage rimfires to shoot better so all is not lost but if I was Joe-average gun buyer, it would probably be my last Savage. It's that bad.

At 50 yards the best group is about 3". It won't feed Win 45gr DynaPoint at all. Everything I've tried is on the heavy end (40gr +).

I replaced the bottom metal and set the action in a 30 in lbs last night, I'm going to run some lighter bullets though it and see how it does.

In fairness, my 17 didn't really start shooting well until I had a few hundred rounds through it...keeping my fingers crossed that I find something this one likes to shoot too.

sad to hear..... 3" @50 is kinda silly. I guess we have been blessed with our 17's. i've been wanting something in between my .17hmr and .223, but i'm gonna have to pass until i resolve my current build of a stevens 200 30-06 with slight stock issues that needs some proper inletting....

Hope everything turns out in the future, until then the 17hmr is up for the duty!

Like most rimfires....ammo, ammo, ammo.

After fixing the bottom metal I ran some Win 30gr VMax throught it....much better. No trouble feeding the VMax and it's right about 1" @ 50 yards.

I did have one misfire but, put it back in and it fired the second time.

A little more fine tuning and we'll be ready for fox season.

Dave, the dynapoint suck in every 22WMR I have ever shot of any brand. Try the Winchester Supreme 40 and 45 grain loads. My 93FV shoots the 45s into 1-1.5 inch at 100yds. Mine is all factory and still has the heavy factory pre-accutrigger in it, so if I work it over it would most likely do better.

These work great on raccoons, so should work perfect on fox.

If you are looking for a accurate .22 mag hollow point give the Armscor 40 gr a try, it shoots just has tight groups as Hornady v-max does .50 @ 50 yards all day, and they do feed well in my 93 and cz 452...

Dave, on that misfired round. I have two savage 22wmr's and if the bolt is cycled lightly it will sometimes misfire. Cycle the bolt with a little authority and it will never do it. I don't know why but it works in both of them. Good luck with yours.

Yea, Underdog your right on the light cycle thing too..when cycling do it with alittle authority works and I don,t know why ether ?

Thanks guys, I'll be sure to do that and see if it helps.

On the bench, I'm sure I'm light cycling the bolt.

Everything I've been shooting is Winchester.

Grabbed a box of 33gr Rem Accutip........shot 1/2 box, no misfires.

Remington it is then.

Hornady v-max will be cheaper, and tighter grouping.

My model 93 in 22 mag loves Hornady 30 grains and will shoot a cloverleaf @ 50 yards. If anyone has a .17 that will shoot more accurately it would have to put 5 bullets in one hole.
