Bought a complete bolt head for a striker to switch from .243 to .223. It doesn't fit, will require 3 milling cuts to match the bolt to the bolt head, and the firing pin is too large a diameter. Would guess the firing pin is an easy fix but don't want to mill the bolt head.

The smith it came from knew that it was for a striker. Is there a better way to go about this?

Is there a better way to go about this? Talk to the smith yet?

Tried to reach him all week, almost sent it back. Will have local smith mill it.

I bought a complete bolt from Savage . But their quality control must not be too good. When I recieved it the ejector and the ejector spring, and retaining pin were missing. They sent me the missing parts after about a 4 week wait and they don't fit. So I'm in a similar fix.

I thought Strikers just used short action LH bolt heads?

The bolt head can be drilled for the larger firing pin, or the firing pin and retaining pin can be swapped for the smaller diameter.

3 milling cuts? For the dimple in the bolt body? If that's it, I just dremel mine out.

Strikers are right port, right eject.

Duh....I had it backward. Left bolt- right port.

Anyway, I thought they were regular short action bolt heads.

It's fixed with some milling and enlarging dia for pin. Shooting .221fb just fine. Looking for a used fast twist .223 barrel or a 6/45, will never find a used one of that caliber.
