Anyone know what the max OAL length is to fit in a Savage 308 short action?

I used the Hornady OAL tool to find max oal to lands and did it several times with several different 168 gr AMAX bullets and came up with 2.255"(ogive) 2.985" to tip.

loaded in magazine and it appears to fit and cycle properly but I thought most of the time to get to the lands you would be longer than the magazine?

And you need it against the lands because......

I measured my stevens 223 the other night, without the block was 71mm so just under 3"

my 223 stagger feed was 2.878.
just wondering, does it make a difference whether it's CF or SF? which one you looking for?

If it's a Savage barrel like mine they're short chambered, you can get into the lands and still have room in the mag.
