A 20 or 30 MOA base is one option for long range but if you plan to shoot closer distances as well then I would recommend a reticle with some kind of markings like a bushnell DOA, or nikon BDC.
Personally when I'm just messing around (on nearly windless days) I'll set up some balloons about 425 yards away and just aim off the bottom of my cheap 3-9x scope...I align the verticle with the balloon and just have the balloon sitting on the bottom of the sight picture.
BTW, The drop is about 26' for my rifle and ammo at that distance and the time of flight is so long I can fire a 2nd shot before the first impacts....its not as outlandish as it sounds, try it and you will see.

Here is what I have, good to 200 yards.

Leupold 3x9x33 VX-II EFR (fine reticle) mounted on the bases that came with the gun. 0 MOA.

Wolf Match Target 40gr solid. 1050fps

My MOA drops, which have worked for the last 3 years.

50.0yd - 0
75.0yd - 2.0
100.yd - 6.0
125.yd - 9.5
150.yd - 13.5
175.yd - 17.0
200.yd - 20.0

I have 5.0 moa left after 200yd on the scope. This is the only scope that I dial elevation for and it works pretty good.

Later, Brad

Here is a link to a contest in SoCal. I wish someone in my area would put one of these on. It would be a blast

Here is a real good read on the 22 LR standard velocity round at up to 300 yards.

my first post here.

i've been shooting 200 yards for a few years now with a mkii bv, and it is challenging, fun, and rewarding. my best group was 5" off a bipod and no rear bag, worse so far 10" (wind).

with the right ammo (usually match ammo, wolf sk, eley, etc.) you can consistantly shoot out there. i suggest a 20 or 25 moa base, as after 125 yards the round REALLY drops like a rock. and some good scope dope to remember what you did and where to set your turrets. the sk and the aguila match ammo i use drops 69" at 200 from a 50 yard zero.

as we know at 100 yards, your form has to be on to group well and at 200 is magnified much more.
