I purchased a Super Sporter last week in 30 30 and took it to the range. It shoots great and I really like it. Problem is it has buckhorn rear sights and my 53 year old eyes are a large handicap to me. I have been searching for information as to what kind of mounts would work on this and read some had side mounts? Mine is not drilled but at the top of the receiver are lines of grooves for some sort of dovetail mount? The rifle is really in pristine shape and well taken care of. I really dont want to screw it up and wanted a bolt action 30 30 to try different hand loads and possibly shrink my groups as compared with my lever 30 30. Anyway I digress. Are these some sort of dovetail grooves on top of the receiver? If so they seem shallow and seem as if they may not support a very stable mount. The only thing I have done so far is search for pictures and try and decypher how others mounted scopes on their super sporters. Any info would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance

Dan

The grooves are there to provide a matte finish, so the reciever wont reflect light, shine. A lot of the older marling lever actions were like that, and they werent drilled and tapped either.I am eyeballing one just like yours, mint condition, walnut stock great rust bluing at my local gun shop, for $300! To put a scope on , drill and tap, would ruin the collectors vallue..
