I have a model 12 in .223. I'm looking to convert it to 17 Hornet. What bolt face would be appropriate or who would I talk to about this?

Not sure but I do not think you can do it
The hornet is a rimfire which uses a completly different bolt and chamber design
But maybe someone will chime in that knows more about this

I think he means the new .17 caliber in a .22 hornet case. It isnt a rimfire. What it is is a rimmed case like the hornet and .30-30. I dont think there is a bolt head for it yet 10 based rifles and because of the rim it is a single shot deal as rimmed cartridges do not work well in box type magazines. Your best bet for that cartridge is to buy a model 25 in that caliber.

PTG makes a bolt head for the hornet based cartridges. Give them a call.

Do yourself a favor and just get a Savage Model 25 in 17 Hornet. A lot easier and likely cheaper in the long run, plus you won't be restricted to a single-shot. I doubt the short Hornet case would even extract/eject properly from a 110-based action.

JW, its not a rimfire. It uses the .22 hornet case necked down to .17 caliber. There may not be a bolthead to fit that case. It is a rimmed case like the hornet which means it would likely have to be a single shot as rimmed cases do not do well in Savage box magazines. If you want the .17 hornet badly you may have to buy a model 25 Savage. They come in .22 Hornet and .17 Hornet. There are several versions of Rimfire .17 caliber in .22 size rifles based on the .22 rimfire case. They have excellent velocity.

All of the "Buy the Model 25 in .17 Hornet" is great.....except Savage hasn't actually released the Model 25 in this caliber yet. In fact, the only way to get a rifle in this caliber right now is to buy a T\C Contender and have a custom barrel maker chamber one for you. Savage was suppose to release theirs in January.....but here we sit in July still waiting.

This is the by far, the best forum to ask questions and get sound responses that help
Thanks
