Muzzle Brake

I want to have a muzzle brake installed on my 110 30-06. It has the factory barrel on it. I would like to deal with someone on here so who do we recommend?

Factory sporter barrel? If so I'm not sure that's even going to be a possibility as the barrel is probably only 0.550" at the muzzle for a wall thickness of only 0.121" or just shy of 1/8" Not much material there to machine down and put threads on

Normally I don't question anyone's desire to do whatever they want to their firearms, but I just have to ask if you're really sure that you want a brake? Though I guess I should preface that question with the one: What is the intended use of the gun? Strictly target shooting, or will you be hunting with it at all?

I am not going to debate here whether or not a person should use or not use a muzzle brake. It has been debated here many times with no clear winner and i don't think there will ever be one. With that out of the way my advice is to contact Devin at Sinarms. Try by phone as that seems to be the best way to get him. He has threaded 2 out of 3 of my threaded barrels (1 was used and came to me threaded) and they were done very well and great machine work. Devin and I talked about threading a 30-06 sporter savage barrel I had and came to the conclusion that it was possible if we cut it back just a bit. I ended up getting a Savage 116 30-06 new take off in Magnum contour and had that threaded, so I cannot say that I have done it to a sporter but it should work fine.

Wuz, mostly it will be used for paper punching at my own range and I'm taking it to Idaho to go hunting next year with no guide. Hunting here in NC I will keep using my 30/30. I just mainly want it to look good.

So you're adding a brake primarily for aesthetics, and not for recoil control?

OK. The only reason I asked is that .30-06 recoil is easily tamed via a good recoil pad (Pachmayr, Limbsaver, etc.). So much so that dealing with the ear drum abuse that comes from a muzzle break just isn't worth it on a hunting rifle.



But if you still want it then please make sure that you never light the thing off without good hearing protection.

Dont worry I always shoot with plugs and muffs. I have hearing damage from my racing days and cant afford to lose much more of it.

I was surprised what a good brake can do to recoil. SSS installed a brake on a 7mm Magnum that they build for me. The rifle has less recoil than a 243. However, you BETTER be wearing hearing protection.
