Looking for good 200-300yard deer loads in 7mm-08.

Barrel is a factory Stevens 1:11 22" on a Stevens long action, so mag length is not an issue.

Obviously all guns are different etc etc, just looking for an idea of what's working for others with similar combo.

I have used H4350 and Ramshot Big Game with 120, 139, and 140 grain bullets with complete satisfaction. Varget has a lot of fans too. I would try it, but Big Game is working too well to want changes.

Thanks for the tip- I have some H4350 on hand, will have to give it a try.

Why is mag length an issue? It should be easier to get near the lands with a LA mag box.

Good catch- meant to say that its not an issue. Went with the la for that reason.

Just helped a buddy build one a couple weeks ago. Built on a Model 111, DBM, Accutrigger. Screwed on 22 inch Stevens 7-08 barrel, loaded 41 grains of Varget, WW Primer, Remington 140 Cor-lokt. Awesome rig!!!

Have heard that R17 works well, especially when you have room t seat the bullets out into the neck. Anyone have any experience with this?

I've had good luck with Sierra 120gr Spitzers over 42gr of Varget lit by Winchester primers producing .75" groups at 100 yards all day long with my mostly stock Stevens rig. (It only has a bedded aftermarket stock at this point). Been also playing with Sierra 100gr HP over 45.5gr Win 748 with Winchester primers. Not as accurate as the above load but still gonna get the job done...My 2 cents worth for what it's worth...

So far, the Speer 145gr BTSP over 45 grains of H414 has worked best for me. I'm guessing that will shoot well out of a 1:11 barrel, but mine is a 1:9, so your mileage may vary. ;)

Hornady 139gr SSTs with mid-level Varget charges have also worked quite well. I just made the switch to H414 because my Lee powder measure seems to be more consistent with ball powder.

I had a very hard time getting my M14 Classic to shoot anything! Wouldn't shoot the Nosler 140 BTs with anything. Finally managed to get a 5/8" group with the Hdy 139 gr SST with IMR4350. Had been trying some Speer 130gr BTSP's with unremarkable results. Sold the rifle yesterday. When I looked up the model number (17940); found out it was one of the 1:11.5 twist rifles, which may explain some of the problems I've been having with the longer boattail designs. I'm guessing it would've shot well with the lighter bullets.
So, I have a new 11FCNS - also in 7mm-08 - on the way.

Sierra makes a 120 grain Pro Hunter that should work well in your barrel. I'd try it with Varget or H4350...
