Has anyone loaded this cartridge in a pistol length barrel? I have a 15" barrel and will use the 120gr. & 140gr. bullets for target, silhouette and hunting. I have loaded the 6.5 Creedmoor in a rifle with a 26" barrel and wonder if the same powders in the Hornady manual, or others would be better suited to get about 2,200-2,300 fps with those bullet weights. I don't need maximum speed for target and silhouette work. Thank you.

Promise me you will post a photo of the fireball when you first shoot it.

BIll,
A buddy of mine built one with a 16" barrel. I can't remember the speeds he was getting but it was more than what you posted. He sent me a couple pictures of prairie poodles he shot yesterday between 300+ yards. Don't over think the powders. Just use the one that gives the best accuracy.

I have my barreled action in 6.5 CM sitting, wating for John Ocabo to give me a call and say my stock is ready. I will get data from my buddy for you. He is using a Match Grade Machine barrel on an Encore frame.

Thank you for the replies:

darker: The 6.5 Creedmoor is, in my opinion, a mild cartridge compared to some rounds that others are shooting in handguns.

Jamie: The Hornady factory 140gr. A-max ammo has shot exceptionally well in my Savage 12LRP rifle. H-4350 has been my go to powder so far. I have an Encore with a 15" barrel from the T/C Custom Shop with an 8" twist. I'm waiting for some grips and scope mounts and will head to the range with a chronograph and try out some loads. I'm sure I can get higher velocities for hunting applications. Thanks, and look forward to your buddies data.

He is using 41.5 grains of H4350 with 120 grain Amax for 2630 fps.

Standard rules apply, work up to this.

Jamie:

Thanks for the load data. H-4350 powder appears to be the go to powder for this cartridge.
