In order to order a muzzle brake or a can for a precision carbine, What thread pattern would one order to ensure proper fit?
Is their a difference between the pattern used on the .308 VS the .223?

Thanks BHJ

That my friend is a VERY good question! I would assume that .223's would use the same 1/2x28 pitch that is used on AR's. I know a lot of 30cal AR-10's use a 5/8x24 pitch for their muzzle devices. I'll shoot an email off to Savage and see what kind of response I get.

Yep - just as I expected....

.223 and rimfire = 1/2x28
.308 = 5/8x24

My 10 FCP-K .223 has the big barrel and is a 5/8x24 for the brake IIRC.

I'm guessing you're remembering incorrectly. lol Those thread sizes came straight from Savage this afternoon and they're pretty much an industry standard for the bore sizes.

Here is a pic of the thread and measurement on the Savage 10 FCP-K with the brake off. 5/8"x 24tpi. Must be the exchange rate as Im currently in Canada:becky:

Thanks for checking Jim.
I suspected as much and am glad they followed what seems to be an industry standard. There are lots of good devices from multiple manufacturers available using those patterns. I kinda figured this would be a good place to get an answer, I really couldn't find out much other than a couple of vague references I didn't trust on the web.

I find it kinda interesting that the fcp-k .223 factory brake would have a different thread pattern using the 5/8x24.
I wonder if this rifle pre dates the 10 precision carbine and the apparent adaptation of the industry standards used on them?
Thanks for the input guys my .308 PC is on lay away. My local gun shop guy makes it easy to acquire nice stuff even when on a tight budget :)

My 10FCP-K in .223 was threaded 5/8x24 too.
