I finally got to shoot with my new barrel today. I am getting consistant .2 inch groups at 100 yards with berger 80's over varget. .3's with 107gr matchkings. Freebore is about 15 thou longer than the savage barrel. This thing is a shooter. Only downside was I had to get a small base die because the chamber is very tight.

Customer service from Jim Briggs was excellent. The guy knows savages and like everyone says, he doesn't try to sell you stuff you don't need. I will definately be buying from him again.

BZ for Jim!

After the first 2 rounds, i got no copper fowling. With the savage barrel, patched would come out very blue. No blue at all with this one.
Target was at 100 yards. winds gusting up to 20 mph and rain.

Very nice results. Jim is certainly a great guy to deal with. What was the delivery time?

What is the twist on that barrel? I have an 8 twist sitting here that I bought used with about 100 shots fired. Previous owner said it was a shooter but I haven't put a round through it yet. Do you mind sending me an email with your loads if you are not comfortable posting them here. My email is warnerhill1455@yahoo.com

Thanks

Vince,
You might as well order up some bergers for it with that coupon you got...! I have some 90gr bergers to try in mine, but mine will shoot 87gr vmax with 30.3gr varget in VERY little holes.

Pretty much around 30gr varget and whatever bullet you wanna try is what they say over on accurate shooter.

Disclaimer:
WARNING: With all loads, ALWAYS START 10% LOW and work up incrementally.

Its 26 inch 8 twist. The chamber is tight so i had to get a redding small base die. the tight groups on the bottom are 107gr sierra match kings .010 jump with 29.4 to 29.6gr of varget and cci 450 primers. Thats the node I found anyway. I also had tight groups with berger 80's touching the lands with 30.6gr of varget. The throat got about .010 longer after the first couple hundred rounds, hopefully due to break in.

Great groups and same for the gun. I smell at least 1 coyote in that hill behind your range, but I wont go there to call!

The Criterion barrel I got from his is one of the easiest cleaning barrels I have had. Shoots good too.
