Hey folks, looking to take my 14 yr old nephew varmint hunting for ground squirrels.
I bought him a Savage 12Vss stainless, in 22-250 cal for his birthday.
We went target shooting a few times (first time he has ever shot a gun)
but now it's time to take him hunting for the first time in his life. He's very excited.

I'm new to Northern California and so far I have spent about $350 on gas driving
around trying to find a good hunting spot within 2 hours of Folsom but failed miserably.
I realized I need some help.

Any suggestions would be appreciated. We have to pass on the torch of Hunting
to the next generation. They are the future of registered voters. If we lose them,
we eventually lose our guns. So let's inspire and educate. Help an uncle out.

thanks in advance. You can email me at sethducati1098@gmail.com

Take a look at Varmint Al's page: http://www.varmintal.com/avarm.htm

There are some links listed as a starting point. One contact may lead you to another......

My dad and I are going hunting on 395 between Susanville and alturas tomorrow. It's quite a drive from Folsom area but I head up there from Stockton. We've each got 125 shots the time I've been there. My dad has gone 6 times this year and averages 200 shots a day going by himself. The place is called alturas ranch, i believe it's 36000 acres of alfalfa. They give you a yearly hunting pass for free tho they say this is about as late in the year as the squirrels are above ground. I'll post here how it goes tomorrow.
