Hog Hunter Receiver Parent

I just got my .308 Hog Hunter after the 10 day wait and I want to know what the receiver is based on so that when I look for barrels, scope bases, magazine plates, etc. I know what to look for.

The Hog Hunter is a Model 11 as likely labeled on the box; two-digit model numbers denote that it is a short action.

If you measure the action screws, you will likely see they are 4.4" apart which denotes a "centerfeed" action. If you remove the screws and separate the action from the stock, you'd see the magazine well is attached in the stock vs. attached to the action; this too denotes a centerfeed.

You will also note that the back of the action is ROUND, ie. "round back".

You should also look at the barrel nut, where you find a nut that looks like this:

This denotes you have a standard shank (ie. small shank) action. A large shank action barrel nut would look like this:

Yep, should be a standard small shank centerfeed short action.

I haven't measured yet but it seems Boiler Up described my rifle almost to the T. The only exception was that the rifle didn't come with the grooved barrel nut like in Boiler's example. I don't know how to attach pictures to this forum so here is a link to the picture of the gun I do have online.

There are two different styles of nuts. You can replace the smooth one with a grooved if you want.

Looking around the interwebz I was able to find a lot of 10 receiver stocks but no 11, will I be able to use any of these 10 stocks? The Tupperware stock doesn't even feel like Tupperware standard, feels more like Rubbermaid containers (cheaper and flimsier).

Yes.

Savages are generically referred to as Model 10 (short action) or 110 (long action). If you have a Model 11 (or 12 or 14 or 16), it uses stuff that is generically designated Model 10.

You need to make sure you are looking at stocks for CENTERFEED short actions with 4.41" action screw spacing, as older Savage short actions were "staggerfeed" and had 4.27" spacing.

Okay, since you've cleared up my ignorance in the naming scheme of Savage and that the Hog Hunter is part of the 11 family, does the 11 family have a model with a detachable box magazine that I can get without having to take the dremel to it? I figure that the mating surfaces between the action and the stock in the 11 family would be the same and if there is a model with a DBM I can just purchase that. The first one would be a bolt-on other than you would still need to buy the DBM bottom metal and magazine. The bottom one is another option, but you'd have to pay more yet to have your current stock or any other stock specifically inlet for CDI's bottom metal as it's vastly different that Savage's.

Well I forgot that I had this thread going until after I already posted on Hog Hunter .223's thread. But I'll stick with this one for any pertinent .308 HH questions from now on Jim.

Right now I'm leaning towards the CDI bottom because it gives me the option of getting a 10 round magazine and I am really digging that
