Haven't done any barrel switching on any of my savages yet. You guys make it sound so easy that I might just give it a try. Where is the best place to get the go no go gauges? And where do get your barrels? Is there someplace on this forum that shows what caliber barrels will interchange without doing any bolt work? IE;[223/204] [25-06/30-06] etc. thanks

I just bought gauges for .308/.243 and belted magnum from Midway. A couple of companies have them listed for a few dollars less, but they were also "out of stock". I didn't want to wait until February.

Midway's probably the best one-stop-shop for firearms components including gauges and cheap barrels. Aside from that there's the member and vendor classifieds.
If you stick with the "family" calibers you really only need to buy a go guage to cover a wide range of shooting.
The short action family based on the 308 will cover 243, 260, 270-08, 7mm-08, 308, 338, 358 and possibly the 22-243 middlestead.
The long action family based on the 30-06 will cover 6mm-06, 25-06, 6.5-06, 270, 280, 30-06, 338-06 and 35 whelen.
All of the above have a .473 rim. The .222, .223, .204, etc have a .378 rim.

I'll differ on pa_wdchuckhuntr's post on one minor point:

The .280 has a different headspace dimension ........

Yeah, the 280 is .050" longer at the shoulder than the '06 family, 2.049" min vs 2.099 for the 280 min.

I figured there'd be one I'd miss. Thanks for the correction.

thanks fanatic, So any caliber that matches your original case size will interchange correct? All .473's all .378's etc. What about the 220 swift [.473] and the 22-250 [.472] thanks guys
