Very close to ordering a 22" light varmint 223AI barrel from Jim in either 8 or 7 twist, planning to shoot the 80gr A-Max and hoping to get 2900fps+.

Just curious if anybody else has a CBI 223AI, and if so, what kind of performance you're seeing (barrel length and twist, COALs, velocities, accuracy, etc).

Thanks!

Don't know how much help I can be, but I have a 26 inch, varmint contour, CBI, 1:8 223AI. I think that it will really be a shooter, much better than I can hold. I only worked with one bullet, 69gr SMK before I put it away for deer season, and I haven't even been to the range this year. I have a 3 year old and he gets all my free time now, I figure I can do plenty of shooting when he realizes dad really isn't that cool. That old rifle will sit in the safe and wait on me, but these days are going by way too fast. Here are a couple of groups from load development. I don't know about velocity, I don't own a chrono yet.

This was my first build so I think I will keep it for awhile, at least until I see just how good I can get it to shoot. My goal was to build a rifle that was better than I am so that I can work on my shooting and get better. I think this one will fill the bill when I get back to it.
