I own an Am. Classic in .250 and love it. I shot 3 deer so far with it- 2 very large (for here in NC) bodied bucks and an nice doe. They were all shot inside of 100yds w/ a 100gr. Sierra Game King w/ H4895 going right at 3000fps. (Safe in my modern strong bolt rifle!). Hammered them, they all bucked hard, ran 20-30yds and were dead as a door nail. Complete penetration on all.
I would think your lever rifle would be great!
I really like the low recoil (not that I am recoil sensitive- its just nice) and low noise. My buddy didn't even hear me shoot 2 of the 3 and w/ my 7-08 he knows every time I shoot.

Ya, the stocks were totally replaced.

That one will have a 1-14" twist and they stayed like that right up to 1960 when they went to a 1-10" twist. Your gun will stabilise 87 gr bullets better than it will ther heavier 100 gr you see alot of today.
