Hi,
I have an savage 112 in 22-250 Long action with a 26" bull barrel, and I have 2 Stevens 200 CF short actions a 243 an a 308.
I was needing a long action for a 270 a&b barrel I picked up on this site, and also wanted to eventualy do a 257 rbrts project rebarrel, that I had planned on needing a long action when I get a barrel.
What would I need to do with the LA 22-250, for either the 270 or 257 rbrts.
I would need to swap out the bolt head, would I not ?
Then, I wanted to place the 22-250 bull barrel onto on of my short actions, thus haveing a "new" short action 22-250. If I had to swap bolt heads for the 270, I would then have the old bolt head to go along with the old 22-250 bull barrel. The old 22-250 was a stagger feed, and the "new" short action would have to be a CF or a single shot, it is after all really a bench rifle with the 26" bull barrel, so a single shot is no big deal to me.
I have an action wrench, and nut wrench, and I have swapped out 3 other barrels, but they were barrel swaps using the same parent cartridge, 22-250 to 250 savage, and 25-06 to 338-06.
Any help would be great.
Thanks

hmmm. More than likely that long action has a short cut out for the short action mag so a 270 is out of the question and the 257bob is better built from a long action with a long action mag. Gonna have to measure and see if it has the long action mag port or the short

Magizine length, ok I'll have to check.
Same bolt head, that is good.
Thanks for the input.

No problem, put the 270 on the long action, and the 257 Roberts on the short action. It will fit. No issues at all.

I am not speculating.

I have one.

This one is my daughter's weather warrior, built from a 243 WW.

Step 1: Unscrew old barrel

Step 2: Screw in new 257 Roberts barrel and set headspace.

Step 3: Tighten barrel nut.

You are done, enjoy!

It takes no other work/changes/alterations. Even the magazine was fine, feeds Roberts ammo flawlessly from the 243 magazine.

Once you're sure the mag cut out on the 110 will hold a long action mag. As for the 257 on the SA well seeing is believing on that one.

no doubt the bob can be put in a short action. The question is gonna be the 112 in 22-250. some of those long actions were cut for a short action mag box.

Slowpoke,
How well does it feed the longer bullets, like Barnes or similar?

Also for the OP, although I am not sure about dies brass etc, just looking at the pictures of the cases, the 257 AI offers a slightly shorter case length, and greater case capacity for even more zip, since you're re-barreling anyway. Just a thought.

My short action Remmy will not allow moving the bullet up close to the lands, because the rounds will not fit the magazine.

This is not an issue, because it's a meat gun for deer, and It shoots MOA even with a lot of bullet jump.

Ruger made some Bobs with medium length actions, and that was good.

If accuracy was an issue I would not use a short action, unless a special chamber with very little freebore could be reamed.
