I have an old 110 in 7mm RM. I have been building some Ar's in 300AAC Blackout lately and Shaw now offers Savage prefit barrels in 300AAC. I am itching to build a light, shorty bolt gun in 300AAC out of this old 110 that never leaves the safe anymore. Anyone ever run a short cartridge in a long action. I would like to mag feed it with a detachable mag set up. Okay everyone....throw it all out there!

Yes, you can do this; here's a 110 long action that is destined to become a .223 (or 223AI?) and is waiting for a secondhand McMillan A5 to come back from being inletted at CDI.

For starters, you will need a long action .378 bolt head (which is rare) or the kit offered by SSS that allows you to use a short action .378 bolt head on a long action. You'll also need to get CDI's Savage LA/308 mag box DBM (this will probably be easiest).

You might note my action has a 204/223 extended bolt baffle; 308-size magazines sit forward enough in the CDI DBM that you can utilize the extended baffle to shorten bolt throw. With the extended baffle, bolt throw is only about 1/4-1/2" longer than my 10FP.

Excellent news. I will need .223 mags of some sort to feed the 300AAC. Are you going to use AI mags with this setup for your .223 build?

Okay thanks! Couldn't really tell caliber from the mag picture. That's exactly what I need. I'll have to call CDI in the morning.
Now, to find that bolt head.

Good luck, I tried for 2 months to find one of the bolt heads. SSS sells the extended firing pin nut for $12 shipped, and it only took 1 call...

Just call (many, many times) or send an email (and wait up to a week for a reply); Lisa knows exactly what you'll need and once you finally get ahold of them they can get it to you in short order.

Alrighty...will do. Oh and on a side note...are you a CJ driver? Just noticed your avatar. I'm an RA390 and B300/350 driver.

Thanks for the info Boiler.
