Does anyone know if savage ever made a small shank, 26" varmint, SF, 7 twist barrel in .223. Barrel is marked model 12.

Model 12 VLP DBM 223 is available in a 26" 7 twist, fine gun

Rifle is still in production

Get a gun and build it with a premium barrel and a really good trigger such as the sss.Then you can bed it yourself.

Yes I had one.
I think the twist is marked on the barrel but you could measure it too

7 twist is sort of an overkill for 223 unless you want to shoot 90 gr bergers.
1:8 is enough or 80 gr bullets.

That said my gun shot 52 gr amaxes 1/4-3/8".
It also shot 90 gr bergers at 3/8"
