Is it possible to put a compensator on a sporter profile barrel? Is there enough meat there to thread? Iam just curious as my 7mm Mag is a ***** when it comes to recoil, I'd like to get a compensator for range use and then take it off when hunting. Please school me on this. Thanks guys!!!

Well there would of course be a change in impact between having it on and taking it off. I have a muzzle break on my STW, yes it does make it loud. However in the field hunting you wont hear it. There are brakes designed for slim, sporter taper barrels. Best solution, if available, would be a off/on muzzle break like was available on some of the Striker series. That way it would not change ypur point of impact.

yes you can break a factory sporter barrel. I had Shawn carlock put one of his breaks on my 116 in 300 win and yes it was loud but man it was a joy to shoot.

Try a Limbsaver buttpad. The have a slip on style. And a lot cheper than a muzzle brake. It will reduce the recoil by a goodly bit.
