Question about the F class shoots...

Can anyone tell me the procedure or format for the F class shoots.

Like how many rounds you need,what is the time limit allowed,etc..

I also here some shoot prone with front and rear rest as well as the
same on the bench..Why do some shoot off the bench? Is there a
reason behind this madness?

What distance are they held.I heard someone say 250 yards? So
if you want can you please shed some info. on this...I am
thinking of trying it myself..I used to do the black powder cartridge
game but am getting away from it to something more easy
and where you can use a scope as well..John

All the questions you asked can have various answers depending on the club that hosts the match. 250, 300, 600 and 1,000 are all distances I've seen listed... depends on the range.

Generally it is prone, but I think some ranges allow off the bench if you are a handicapped individual.

Generally speaking, the format is 3x600 or 3x1k. 20 shots for each string, so 3 sets of 20 shots in a 20 minute time period. Some ranges allow unlimited sighters and some only allow a couple. And even more stringent I have heard of some ranges saying no spotters allowed after the first set.

It is a lot of fun and I strongly encourage you to give it a try. You don't need all the fancy schmancy equipment. Just a good gun on a prone bipod and a rear bag and you are good to go. A carpet or blanket to lay on. Oh, and you need ammo. ;D

Well I thought it might help....I know nothing about the competitions. The only one I compete against is myself.

John this should get you to the NRA's web page where you can click on the pdf version of the rules that will include F-Class, Service rifle and Palma. Some of the rules are the same across all three and some are different. Also tells what ranges and what targets are used at each range along with how targets are scored.

If you want to experience a long range F-Class shoot, come to the Eastern Armed Forces Memorial Matches (AKA Remembering hthe Brave) this coming Friday, May 25, 2012. Location is the Marine Corps Base, Quantico, VA. Go to www.quanticoshootingclub.com for more details.

The particular match on the 25th is from 1,000 yards for both individual and team. For individual, it's unlimited spotters and 20 rounds for record. For the team match, it's 2 spotters and 20 rounds for record (total 80 rounds for the 4 shooters).
