questions about the 6.5 creedmore sav.mod.10

I have been thinking about getting one of these rifles.

When listening to some of the guys at the range,I am
having doubts as to if I want one or not..

They say the barrels do not last long with this caliber.
Then I got to thinking that maybe someone is using
too hot of a load and smoking the barrel..

Is this the same as a 6.5 284 or different? Please
help me out here...John..

It's smaller than a 260.

I thought it was close to the same as a 6mm-22/250. That could be off to, I am going of memory

The "guys at the range" have absolutely no idea what they are talking about. None. Zero.

The 6.5 Creedmoor can expect about 4,000+ rounds of barrel life for most folks. Just depends on if you are shooting BR, f-class, silhouette, tactical or hunting. It is not a barrel burner anymore than a 6.5x47L, 260 and is even close to a .308 barrel life for that matter.

Don't listen to those guys, they clearly have no experience with this cartridge whatsoever.

The 6.5 Creedmoor fits perfectly between the 6.5x47L and the 260. It's slightly longer than the 47L and slightly shorter than the 260.

Because that was another thing which I had in mind...I have heard it
is a pretty accurate round.I have owned rifle that I have kept
very strict records on and some have had as much as 7000 rounds..

That is why I was surprised as what they were saying about it..I have
heard that some powders are noted for burning out barrels...John

I have two Creedmoor rifles. One I use for Metallic Silhouette competition and the other I use for F-class Open competition. It is a wicked accurate cartridge. The one I use for F-class is a factory Savage LRP with a Sightron 10-50x60mm scope mounted on top of it. I shot/spotted with a gentleman using a $5k+ f-class rifle in .284 Shehane and when I got done shooting he wanted to know what I had done to my rifle. He was surprised when I told him it was right out of the box.

My Creedmoor that I use for Silhouette is a little more custom. It is a Savage 110s with a Shilen Select Match barrel with Ratchet rifling, a Canjar double-set trigger and topped with a Leupold 25x Silhouette scope. All that and the factory LRP still out shoots it.

Last year there was a "Savage Day" at our range, where Savage supplied 6 or 8 rifles for anyone to shoot at 600 yards. Hornady supplied the ammo, and Nikon supplied the optics. One of the rifles was a LRP in 6.5 Creedmoor. After over 400 rounds were fired through the rifle, a couple of my buddies were having a big time shooting the spotter disk on the target after becoming bored shooting 10's and X's with the Creedmoor. Just think what it would do with hand loads.

Because it was developed as a "standard components available" F-class cartridge. The barrels tend to be VERY long as well.
The case capacity is slightly less than a 260 Rem. So quite a bit smaller than a 6.5-284.

Barrels get burned out by shooting rapidly, or with very hot loads. Also remember that what a very competitive F-class shooter calls "shot out" is not so by anyone else's definition.
A 264WM has been considered a "Barrel burner" for quite some time. I have never had an issue with mine....

From what I have seen the F glass shooters here get the barrels pretty warm..

Not sure what the time limit is but 20 rounds is a lot,I would think..
