I came across an old shotgun in my father in laws basement today and I'm trying to figure out more about its history...

I will upload pictures later... But it says savage 12 gauge triple shot, has carvings of scroll work and a pheasant right by the ejection port, serial number is 45569, only thing stamped on barrel is "proof tested (sp)." I'm assuming based on the owner and his history that this shotgun is probably from anywhere in the 1940's - 60's.

Does anyone have an idea on the model or age? I'll be posting pics that just took in a few hours later tonight. Thanks!

Pictures are really needed to attempt an identification.

Sounds like the Savage copy of the Humpbacked Browning semi auto that was made with a steel or alloy (lightweight ha, ha) receiver.

The "engraving" was cast into the receiver.

No real value but have a gunsmith check it out and BE SURE the friction rings on the magazine tube are properly installed for the loads you are using.
