This is a bit of duplication on M_A_G_N_U_M's thread ....... however,

I bought a Long Action '06 face bolt head and it does not have the relief notch to match my Long Action bolt body's notch that is stamped through the side of the body. The tag from Midway is marked LA so if it's not .... it's marked wrong.

If I dremel out the protrusion inside the bolt body am I losing something or are there both kinds of LA head and avoid grinding?

I have the tools from a gracious fellow member to make the barrel swap and need to decide fairly quickly.

Dremmel away. You don't need it. It's an old factory thing.

Since the bolt head shaft is keyed I'd imagine its also has the old .145" diameter firing pin instead of the newer .095". You'll probably need to open the new bolthead for the older pin diameter. Use a #26 (.147") bit, but only to the vent.

I did the "dremel deed" this afternoon ...... fits fine now.

BillPA,

I am changing from a 7mm Rem mag, Mad Dog dated my S/N and it's a 2000 vintage. I bought a '06 head with the small hole to match the small pin.

(I caught that thanks to this web site)

Many thanks to all!
