I just recently picked up a 270 WSM and would like to work up a load with ballistic tips. I'm looking at going with either the 140 or 150 grain offering. The 140 grain weight class seems to be much more popular in this bullet diameter but my concern is the velocity with this cartridge/bullet combo. I'm not opposed to 150s if slowing them down a bit is necessary, but is it necessary? Would a 140 be reliable at 270 WSM velocities? I live and hunt in WY so many shots are likely to be longer than a typical eastern hunting landscape.

I don't know this for sure but I have been told that in a given caliber that the lighter weight Ballistic Tips open slower than the heavier ones, if the theory is true then the 140 should hold up a little better, a call to Nosler would confirm!

If you're looking at Nosler bullets, try looking around here. As a hard core Nosler fan, I've found a lot of good info here.....

Good luck with your project.
