I am working on making a laminated wood stock and need a extra recoil lug. What size do I order, will a standard shank 10 series lug work if I mill the ring?

You can use a vise grip to pull the recoil lug out of the stock that came with it. It's not in there very tight, your just using the vise grip to grab it. You could just swap back and forth if you wanted too. I assume you could use an aftermarket recoil lug if you trim it down the ID should be the same. Seeing as you can use savage 10/110 barrels in the axis.

DO NOT mar the surface of the lug. Instead of messing with trying to salvage that one get a better one that is milled perfectly flat. Sharp Shooter Supply or Northland. Both ae vendors here.

I purchased a Savage replacement lug and bedded it into my new stock. I also purchased a .250 wide lug that I am going to mill the .188 off the ring and grind it flat to fit the axis action and add a new .308 barrel I hope this will work but its my next project.
Thanks

Bobfortier I bedded the recoil lug it into my new stock and can pull it out if needed. Stock is going slow with one to two hours a day of work.

Very nice work. Looks a lot like my set-up to make them. I did a complete pillar bedding on mine.
How are you going to attach the mag ?

I am looking for a way to use a M14/M1A mag. I will weld up a wellbox with a lug for the front and a lever on the trigger guard but I am still working on that. Second option is the washer and screw that you used. I will machine a washer like this.

Already have done that it is under one thread about Hk magazines. I made a rear action screw pillar that included part of an ak mag release.m-14 mags have been very easy to fit and feed .

As far as recoil lug size ,turn off the unthreaded receiver portion, use a sav small thred recoil lug ,and set headspace. If u use a thicker recoil lug or after market it will no longer fit into factory stock ,unless of course u inlet for it.

Thanks for the lug info. Is the Hk magazines thread in the axis or 110 forum? I will be working on making a Damascus forge welded trigger guard this weekend and can add a mag release at that time.

Thank again for your help.
