Ive been reading about this chambering and i got a few questions. First of all i know there are two diff....well three diff chamberings. 22-243 win. 22-243 middlestead and 22-243 AI. Im assuming the 22-243 win uses the reg headspace gages for 243 and the 22-243 AI has its own go and uses the reg go gage as the no go gage and the middlestead uses its own since the shoulder is 30°.

Do you habe to use the expensive redding or rcbs specialty dies or is there a cheaper option?

Do any prefit makers have reamers available or is it the case they have to rent it since its not a common caliber?

If you are going to go "overbore" why not a 22-6mm Rem or a 22-257 Weatherby? Barrel makers love these types of projects as they know that they will see you again. ;D

The 22-6mm was my other thought. If my.memory serves right......thats essentually the 6x45 lapua? Or is that chambering a 6mm rem necked down to 22cal? I get confused with the wildcat chamberings.

Thats a necked down 6mm Rem.

If you are going that way, get the 22-6mmA.I. The ability to launch 80gr bullets at 3600FPS just sounds like fun.

I have a 22-243 win and it shoots ok. I shoot 80gr amax's out of it. Works pretty good.

What's it got over the 22-250?

From the data i have seen, the 22-6mmAI (and I am sure the 22-243AI would be very close to the same) can launch 80gr bullets in the neighborhood of 3600 to 3650 FPS. My book is showing 22-250 doing that with 55gr pills. So basically your getting 55gr speed with 75 and 80gr bullets that have much better BC's.

I have a 22-243AI sitting in the closet that I haven't shot yet. This thread is making me want to finally shoot it. ;D
