Here is a link to the FAQ section here which will tell you just about everything you want to know about the differences in Savage Rifles.

http://savageshooters.com/SavageForum/index.php/board,38.0.html

Basically the 110 and the 111 are the same. The older Savages were mostly 110's and savage has kinda revamped the model number sequence to show the major variances in the model lines. Here is a summary of the current numbering.

10/110 is the Law Enforcement Models
11/111 is the Hunter Series
12/112 is the Varmint/Target Series
14/114 is the Classic Series
16/116 is the Weather Warrior Series (SS Hunter Series Counterparts)
25/40 is the Lightweight Varminter
Axis is the Entry Level Hunter Models

And there are some variances and specialty models within the above series. But that should give you the idea.

The only other difference I can think he may be referring to is the majority of 110s are older pre-accu-trigger rifles and the newer 111's are Acc-trigger equipped, with the exception of the plain-jane package guns.
