My factory barrel is a 1-10 twist....

I really want to run the 162 Amax, I shoot long range (Edit- target...no hunting. Energy at the target is irrelevant to me) and you gotta love the BC of that bullet...

But I don't think the 10 twist will stabilize it.

Anyone tried to shoot this bullet from a 10 twist barrel, and the results?

I'm thinking I need to re-barrel. The 162 Amax would be worth it...

Buy one box of those bullets and see if they work. That's a lot less costly then rebarreling your rifle. Your 1:10 twist, if that's what it is, isn't far off the common 1:9 or 1:9.5 twist used for 7 mm cartridges of any version by most makers.

Savage used to use a 1:11.5 twist on their 7mm-08 barrels and it was indeed marginal for anything over about 140 grains but give your barrel a try first.

My heavy barrel Savage Tacticale will shoot the 162 A-Max extremely well. CCI BR-2 primer, my load of H4350, gets 2700fps. Don't know what twist it is but it sure shoots. I normally use R-P cases for this load.

I built a 7mm-08 with the 1 in 10 twist for a friend, it shoots the 162 gr A-Max just fine.
