Stevens 25-06 with some simple upgrades (trigger, recoil lug, etc.)

What factory ammo or bullet for reloads would you suggest for antelope? I was kinda thinking 110g Accubond.

Any other suggestions? Could I go lighter in bullet weight?

Thanks!

I am real fond of the Hornaday 117 spire point boat tail. It will cook off at over 3,100 fps out of my 26" Winchester Mod 70. I find it to be very accurate. Groups are always .75 and below@ 100yds. Please excuse the fact that it is not a Savage.
Best regards,
Grit

110 accubonds shoot bugholes out of my 25-06 sporter. Hold up on shoulder shots on whitetails and smokes em good through the boiler room. for a lighter bullet you might want to look at the Swift Scirocco. Been wanting to try them myself but really no need for me to reinvent the wheel.

I have had great luck with the 110 accubonds on white tails. They make a great combination with reloader 22

Hmmmm.....really wish I could find some factory ammo that wasn't approaching the price of gold! The only factory fodder loaded with the 110 AB is the double tap ammo at about $45 per box!

A good friend of mine is going to borrow my rifle for his hunt. I really don't want to spend the time/money working up a load. Although working up loads for the quarter bore is quite fun!

EFBell, do you still have the 257 WSM?

Yep, Still have it. Last year it stayed home and I took my 25-06. I shoot the 110's out of that too.

Anything in the 100-110 range will be fine.
115-120 gr aren't needed. Antelope are called speed-goats around here. Other than the longer legs, they are about the same size as a goat. Whitetails and antelope are both small easy targets to put down.

Thanks for the input guys! I'm still torn between the AB and the 100g Ballistic Tip.

The price difference has me leaning towards the 100g.......

...Nothing wrong with the Nos. 100gr Bt's for speed goats..My Remmy Shilen bbl'd 700 shoots holes for 3 with 53.1grs of RL-19.. ;D

Pronghorn aren't hard to kill. Mine fell DRT to a 100 gr Interlock at 06 speeds of 3250 fps from my 257 AI:

An Accubond is far from necessary!

I would use a 115 berger.

Thin skin doesn't require primo bullet. Look for good accuracy first. My 25-06 likes Sierra Game Kings 100gr best.

Goats are not too hard long as bullet placement is good. I have a friend that uses 87 gr spire points for his and I will be trying the 90 gr GMX this season out of mine. Hope you can find a good one....mine realy likes the 100 gr speer hotcore....

I've been happy with the 100gr tsx on whitetail. Great accuracy and all my kills have been one shot kills.

AccuBonds will work for goats but are a lot more bullet than nessisary. The few 25-06s I've worked with acually prefered the cheap old fashoned lead tiped bullets.

I have killed a bunch of Deer with the plain old 100 gr Hornady sp in my 257 AI with no problems. Should work the same in a 25-06. Luckus

Has anyone tried the 80grn Barnes TTSX's? 3800 fps with a BC of .316 sounds interesting for a super flat shooting long range load.

What it would gain in flat over the 95VLE Berger @3575fps it would give up in wind drift and the 95 grain Berger would actually best it somewhere around 750 yards.........Depends on your definition of long range?

I can't find anything on that bullet on Berger's website, is it still in production? Is it a target or a hunting bullet? The Barnes TTSX's are very good hunting bullets, especially at high impact velocities.
