I have a new Axis in 25-06 and like it very much. Is it possible to get a bull barrel in 22-250 to interchange with the standard 25-06 barrel? I don't mind the resighting each time the barrels are swapped but would like the 22-250 for coyote hunting.

You would have to call Savage to verify your thread count and size. Shilen does make bull barrels for the Savage but the specifics must be determined before proceeding. Some folks on other forums state that you'd have to use a Stevens barrel as the thread count matches the Axis's but that hasn't been officially verified to my knowledge. I've found that most folk's at my GC simply buy 2 or more Axis's to avoid the hassle of changing barrels for different calibers. I'm one of them! (Axis .22-250Rem, Axis .243Win.) Both rifles are scoped with Weaver 44/40 6x12 w/adj obj. and I used DNZ Gamereaper Mounts for both. I purchased both of these rifles and outfitted them complete for less than the cost of a single hunting rifle/scope combo from Sako.

The Axis has the small shank barrel, standard from Savage. I will fit a barrel from a model 12 VLP on my action, and it screw just fine.

Large thread savages are all but first year ultra magc and all precision target actions, including factory rifles using target actions.
Hope this helps, Gary
