Wood stock

Has anyone sanded down their wood stock on a 111 or similiar rifle with any problems? I want to take half pound off of the stock but I'm afraid I will weaken it.

I have thinned out a Boyds laminate stock with no strangth problems. Didnt take out a lot of wgt. but made it handier to carry in the field. I dought very much you will lose a half pound but as long as the action area and wrist arnt made too thin you should be OK.
