In the late 70s I purchased a bunch of bastogne walnut blanks. At that time I was building custom rifles as a hobby. I retired recently and decided to resume my hobby, only this time i thought I'd focus on building a few long range rifles. So here's my first "shot" at it:

Stevens long action converted to single shot with SSS follower epoxied in place
Shilen select match 28" bull barrel 260AI long throat
SSS machined stainless lug
SSS stainless nut
SSS tactical blue handle
SSS competition trigger
SSS lift kit
Kick eez pad
Bastogne walnut blank
Custom build cheek piece ajustable horizontally and vertically
Bipod rail
Pillar and Devcon bedded
Epoxy and tru-oil finish

I'll be installing a Near base 30 MOA, a Near Alphamount and a Sightron III 8-32x56mm LRMOA.

Long distance results to follow.

Great wood, magnificent work. Should be a shooter. Wish I had machinery. I'm sick of cutting dovetails by hand with files.

I haven't shot it yet, I'm waiting for the base and rings. Needless to say, I'm anxious to try it out.

Moose - That's a horrible looking rifle & I bet it won't shoot worth squat. A man of you talent deserves much better AND since my birthday is at the end of this month, You had better get rid of it before anymore people know you have it. I'll send you my address.... I'll even pay the shipping. You know... before it damages your reputation...

Oh yeah, by the way.... If you made that stock by hand, I hate you.

Stay well,

end sarcasm....

All kidding aside, I wish I could do things with wood besides make firewood...

Mighty fine rig!

BTW, you may not need that 30moa base. MY .260AI uses 28moa at 1000y from a 100y zero. Your scope may have enough internal elevation to get away with being flat.

Thanks JC.

I ordered a 30 MOA base because I have a facility where I can shoot up to 1760 yards, that is if I can maintain dynamic stability beyond 1300 yds with 140 gr size bullets.

i like the looks of that stock. it would be real cool to find some birds eye and do a stock with that

Actually, I have a birds eye maple blank. The only problem is that it's only 2" wide, so I can't make a precision-type stock with it. I'll probably end up making a classic mannlicher, in either 6.5x55 or 7x57 with it. On the other hand, I have a blank bastogne walnut to make a couple of other rifles with. So my next project is a Savage target dual port action with Brux 223 and 6mmBr barrels. This time, I'll add a cocobolo grip cap and forend tip. I'll use the other half of the blank to build a 280 rem hunting rifles on a FN Supreme action with Douglas premium barrel and ebony forend tip and grip cap. Here's a photo of the blank:
