Ultra cool!

Was the barrel in good condition?

The barrel was great. There were a few tiny blemishes that I touched up with 00 steel wool and BC Ultra Blue and you would really have to strain your eyes to tell that it's not brand new. I saw some dust in the bore from it sitting so I ran a brush and a few patches thru it and it felt like it has never been shot. Has it? I thought about running some JB paste thru it just to smooth it out some but I figure that will happen soon enough when he gets his hands on all of the reloading components.

Very nicely done, Chris. I'm sure that young fella is going to have a smile you'll need to straighten out with a crow bar before he can eat again.

Very nice, indeed. You should be proud of yourself for taking on this task AND, at this time, I'd like to say thank you for allowing me to be a small part of your plan. Thank you very much ;D

Too many peolpe place importance on the wrong things in life. This is what it's all about. And I for one was very happy to be a part of it.

I look forward to hearing & seeing good things from this young fella in the future.

I should have waited to install the barrel. I didn't realize that Tom was sending a stainless recoil lug with the scope rings. Well, it just showed up today so now I have to pull the barrel and install it. That's ok though becaus this will really add a nice touch to an already nice rifle.

Ok. Got the new recoil lugs and scope rings installed. Glad I use the blue Loc-Tite on scope bases and rings and not the red kind. Not going to take it apart again, it's really done this time. Going to sight it in in the morning then clean it one more time for the presentation. I'll let you all know how it shoots. By the way, only going to sight it in because I built another '06 about six years or so ago for another person and that gun came out so good that I have been kicking my self ever since for not even shooting it one time. I was too scared that I'd want to keep it if I did. Anyway, here is one final pic of the receiver to show the new recoil lug and rings. Enjoy!

Lookin' real good....

By the way, when can I send my bolt & reciever to be engraved ;)?

Nice work. I patiently await the photos & report. I'll be at the range tomorrow so I can beat the rain & site in my new Vortex.

Good luck with it.

By the way, the last time I used that red stuff on my scope rings, I thought I would need dynamite to get them out again. I only use the red stuff on bigger bolts & screws or things I don't plan on taking apart..... ever.

Well his dad registered here on Thursday and when he stopped by the house yesterday he asked how much it cost to have full access so there is definitely interest.

Chris...
If he comes by make sure he gets on and introduces who he is. I'd like to say hello & wish him well as I'm thinking others would like to as well.

I can't wait to see the pics!!!

By the way, I showed my wife the video you posted about his sister. My wife works in the med profession & knew very little about that affliction. She's heard of it but that's it. Apparently, it is rare indeed.
Also, 1/3 of the way into the video you posted & she had the very same reaction I had. A few tissues were needed to continue viewing it.

Stay well, my friend.

Well, I shot the rifle this morning to sight it in and it shoots the Rem Core-Lokt 150gr VERY well. I had two groups of three on paper (more on that in a moment) But they were both at the very top edge. One was three shots into .900" and the other was two into .300" with the third shot off the paper somewhere but I would guess within .9" also. As to why only two groups on paper and them being at the top edge, it appears the the base that came with the action is either a 20MOA base or something else is going on because the scope is 100% bottomed out, no more elevation adjustment available. I will have to find another base and try again to get it sighted in but I'll leave that task to Jeff and his dad. The ceremony was awesome and there was not a dry eye in the place. We decided to do the presentation as a part of the ceremony instead of at the dinner. I am the short guy in the scout uniform and the tall guy is Jeff's dad Paul. Be sure to click on this link to see the video.

Well done Chris, Well done indeed. That's a proud looking young man & I admire your desire to want to provide him with this wonderful gift. He'll undoubtedly use it wisely & do well with it.

As the saying goes.... "You're a good man Charlie Brown"

Thanks again for allowing me to be a part of your plan. I have taken pleasure in knowing I played a small part in this whole scenario.

Stay well, my friend.

Wow!
Thanks for sharing this project with us Chris
I am sure Jeff will have a lot of use out of the rifle
Don't know about anyone else, but all I was thinking about yesterday was the ceremony and you presenting him the rifle
Really neat that I am over 1000 miles from there but yet felt I was part of it
Thanks again for allowing me to help

Chris, thank you for allowing us to be a part of that. I watched the cideo with my wife after having her read the first page of the thread and we both wiped our eyes. And she wonders why I check the forums I frequent several times a day...because there are truly wonderful people here (and elsewhere) that enrich the lives of those around them and it is a blessing to my soul. Happy Hunting Jeff.

Very Impressive! Great job great cause!

I just found this thread today and read it from start to finish. I too had to wipe my eyes at the end.
