got 1 for my 260, had it Nitrided with some barrels i did, http://savageshooters.com/SavageForum/index.php/topic,41326.120.html

you notice the less play and smother action with it, the Nitride helps more with that, due to the hardness and lubricity.

Nitriding has lubricity? Didyou try the bolt bfore nitriding to make a comparison? Who did the work?

Thanks for the info

Have you noticed any reduction in effort when opening the bolt with the new bolt body and the nitriding?

I know this post is old but i was wondering how you got a black ptg bolt, or if you did it yourself how? This is exactly what im looking for and can only find them in white

I may be wrong, but I believe the nitriding turns it that color

I know nothing about where to get it done, but I bet if ya start a thread someone here does. Just wait a few and maybe someone will chime in on this one

Look for a heat treating company close to you. You want it hung verticaly during the process.

Good info. I have a PTG bolt arriving in a few days and wanted it coated since it comes in the white.

You do realize that the comparison is for lubricated and non lubricated not before and after nitrided. I do agree that harder parts have less tendancy to be misformed theerfore allowing a smoother fit as does microfinishing.

did you have to do anything to the bolt body other than Nitriding? or is it as simple as taking apart the old bolt and putting it together again with the new bolt body?
