I am starting to work up loads for my 270 WSM I am putting together. 24" factoy stainless barrel. It is far from done (are they ever) but it is shootable.

The ingredients I have are:

140 grain Accubonds

H4831

H4831sc

CCI 200's

CCI 250's

I also will be trying Barnes 130ttsx's

Does anybody have any starting loads they would like to share? I would like to stick with the cci 250's as my varmint guns eat up the 200's.

Thanks

Check out Nosler's reloading data. That's what I used for my 270wsm. The load I'm using now is 63 gr of IMR 4350 with 130 gr Nosler BT @ 2.85 OAL. Gets me right under 1 inch groups. Its not nearly as accurate as the first batch of "underloads" I made but I wanted something to hit hard since I only use the rifle for hunting out to 500 yards. With the underloads I went with 57 gr of 4350 which got me down to the velocity of a standard 270 win. but I could make under half inch groups all day and still had plenty of killing power. I used CCI 250s with the underloads and CCI Benchrest with the max load (maybe that's the difference in accuracy?). I'm assuming yours is a hunting rifle since you have a standard barrel.

Glad to see some good info. I just got done playing with a factory 270wsm and 150gr SST's. It wasn't pretty. Tried 4350 and RL-22 all up and down the scale. Those SST's just would not fly right. Got one load down to about 2in at 100 and it sprayed the target at 200yds. Couldn't get two shots within 10in. Even tried another scope when things went crazy. That is the first time I've seen loads behave that way. The SST just appears like it won't stabilize. Of course with a 1-11 twist they may just not work loaded as hot as the wsm can run. Thinking something more in the 130 range would do much better. Never had to work so much to find a decent load. It has been fun and a good learning experience though.
