Hello everyone I just found this site and it is everything I'm looking for . I'm becoming addicted to long range shooting and hunting. I currently have a savage 110 25/06 that I really like but I feel to really become effective at long range shooting and hunting I need something bigger. So what are my options with a barrel change. Thanks for any info. this site is great

pretty much anything from a 17fireball to a 338 edge. How far have you shot with your barrel right now and how far do you want to shoot?

I'm real comfortable out to 300 yrds with my current set up. I would like to be proficient out to 500-600 yards. I know the commitment that it takes to double my range. I was just wondering what it would take to turn my 25/06 into say a 300 win mag. Is it as simple as just ordering a new barrel and my gunsmith installing it or is it alot more involved. If it is more detailled than what calibers can I get with a simple barrel swap.

The barrel swap is very easy, bolt head and barrel. but the 25-06 is plenty for 500-600 yard target shooting.

So all I need to change my 25/06 to 300 win mag is a bolt head and barrel. I know the 25 is good for targets at that range but I'm talking about northern whitetails and elk.

LOL northern white tails are not that tough. .30-30s and .25-20s took a lot of the early ones. :D

deer will defiantly fall to them at that distance and most likely elk to but it is nicer to have a little more ummph for them. Your mag box should be the correct one so yes just a bolt head and barrel.

I am also looking to get a new barrel going from 223 to 6br where do you purchase a new bolt head?
