Have a 12BVSS in .308 and would like to load up some Vmax 110's. Anyone have some experience with powder types/weights? Lots of data out there but rather hear from my Savage Bretheren. smoker

47.5 grains of Varget (.5 under starting) produces 1 hole groups with a 110 grain Sierra Varminter in my 12FVSS.

Thanks Aircraftmech76. I have read much about Varget and am not able to get any in the area I live. RL15 is also very difficult to get and always seems to be running out. Whats your thought about IMR 4895?

I have no experience with IMR4895 in the 308. I've always used either Varget, RL15, or TAC in it.

Sorry I can't be of help,

I used them with varget and was pushing them at around 3175fps with a dose of 47gr of varget. They shot lazer flat out to 250'yrds and i got decent accuracy out of a factory barrel. Avging around 1.5-2".

There is a lot of reviews of folks using IMR4895 with good results so I put together a test with IMR4895 and RL-15. If the weather holds I'll try them tomorrow. Keep you posted. PS What aircraft are/were you working on? Phil

110 V-Max are a blast to play around with in your 308!

My FCP is very accurate with them shooting factory Hornady Ammo!

I, along with Quick Load S/W, would recommend IMR 3031 with the light bullets in the .308 Winchester. Your velocities will increase and ES and SD's will probably be lower.

I work on, and am a crewchief for, a fleet of Twin Commander aircraft that fight fire in Northern California. We go all over the Western US wherever the fires are. We were in AZ, NM, CO, TX, ID, and MT this last year. Needless to say, I put a lot of miles on the service truck...

I have some 3031 and will give that a try next time the weather breaks. Supposed to be a freak today with temps near 60. Quite a job you have there MrMech. Huge responsibility. Did 7 years SAC started on B-36's then B-47's and finished on the B-52 for a very short time......course this was probably before you were born.....got out in 1963. Christ, how did I get this old:) Phil

Range time. IMR 4895 gave me ~1.250 @ 100. RL-15 was less than 1/2" quite a difference. So my rifle likes RL-15 for 150 and 110 grain bullets....that makes it much easier. Phil
