Modifying original question...

New to forum and a new Savage owner. Just purchased a model 10 FCP McMillan and 220 Slug Gun. Right now I'm looking to get a scope for the model 10. Looking for a solid variable scope ranging from 2x-14x. it will be used mostly at the range (200 yds) but on occasion I want the ability to reach out 800+. I've been looking at scopes and have only used Leupold while in the Marine Corps. This will be the first I've owned.

Managed to narrow my search to the following scopes (looking to spend know more than $500). I prefer mil dot or BDC scope.
1. Leupold VX-3 3.5-10x40
2. Weaver Grand Slam 3.5-10x40
3. Weaver Super Slam 2-10x50
4. Nikon Monarch 2.5-10x50
5. Sightron SII 3.5-10x50
6. Burris 3.5-10x42 MTAC

Again looking for durability and good glass. ANY assistance would be appreciated.

The Vortex Viper PST 2.5-10x44 is little more than your posted price, but all reviews show it to be worth the money.

It is on my short list.
